My very first wedding EVER!
I had known Ashley for a long time as her sister and matron of honor, Kristin, and I met while studying abroad in Rome, Italy during college and remained close friends ever since! So while sitting in a beach chair with a piña colada in hand at the hotel bar during my honeymoon in Thailand, I received a brief glimmer of cell service and noticed an inquiry pop in from Ashley regarding photography for her upcoming wedding that spring. My initial reaction was panic as I thought there was absolutely no way I was going to take this wedding so soon into my business. But after a confidence-boosting pep talk from my husband, Paul, (and a second drink) I felt enough courage to send her back a quick response that I would absolutely LOVE to capture her and Adam’s big day and will get back to her with additional details once I am stateside again. And thank goodness I did because boy did we have fun!
The weather the first week of May in the Midwest can always be a little dicey, but the morning of Ashley and Adam’s special day was bright and unseasonably warm for that time of year, with the sun peaking out from behind the clouds just in time for the ceremony! I had butterflies in my stomach from the moment I went to bed the night before, which lasted the entire day. However, knowing the wonderful Trehearne family helped me relax and provided me with a number of assistants I could rely on! It was such a beautiful day and Adam’s father officiated the ceremony, reminding me of the special memory Paul and I share from when his father married us earlier that year in Cape Town, South Africa.
The day went smoothly for me (even with Paul’s last minute inability to join for moral support), and the full afternoon and evening were filled with an incredible amount of joy, laughter, and love. At the end of the night, I felt an overwhelming wave of emotion that told me that I had finally found my “fit” and dream job as a photographer. I drove home feeling more relaxed than I had in a long time, and with a smile on my face because I now had a new direction to focus my attention.
Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Werling!! Thank you for trusting me and helping kick off my photography adventure.
